I have been drawing and painting since my second grade teacher brought out the paint sets and let us paint whatever we wanted. When I was a student in the University of Florida’s art department with my mentor professors — Jerry Uelsmann, Stuart Purser, Harrison Covington, Hiram Williams, and Ken Kerslake —
I was taught to intuitively explore visual options using my own awareness of the vast universe. I am still there. I hope you enjoy all these visual explorations.

Emily L. Young is a Professor Emerita of Art at Portland State University in Portland Oregon. She is an internationally known artist and has shown her paintings throughout the United States, Europe, and Korea. She has taught traditional and computer drawing and painting in the Portland metropolitan area to teachers and students at the elementary, secondary, and university level. She is known for her patient approach to teaching the fundamentals of visual arts and digital images.
